- Get a taste of artisan Bath and enjoy the beautiful decor and design. Situated on the ground floor, the beautiful arched bar is a real focal point and provides a wonderful welcome. Enjoy a range of local beers, ales and ciders or maybe be more indulgent and try something from our cocktail menu. Amazing bar snacks are served that are a tasty extension of the local, wild and sustainable ethos of The Elder restaurant.
Neighbourhoods
Explore our neighbourhood.
Bath celebrates its stories of romance and mischief in our South Parade neighbourhood, where honey-coloured streets and Palladian architecture come together to form a UNESCO World Heritage site of spectacular grandeur. Founded by the Romans as a thermal spa, Bath became a key player in the wool industry in the Middle Ages. In the latter day it developed into an elegant town with neoclassical Palladian buildings, which blend harmoniously with the Roman baths.
Our neighbourhood has provided the backdrop for some of the most enduring works in English literature, not least Jane Austen’s Persuasion, inspired by local events. And it is here, too, that the modern-day inhabitants keep the narrative tradition alive, instilling new generations with their tales of romance and mischief and celebrating their love of storytelling at the festivals that have turned the area into a literary Mecca. Our hotel story begins here. While offering you every contemporary comfort, you’ll notice that many features of our hotel’s grade 1 listed interior reflects its proud Georgian heritage.
In our restaurant and bar we celebrate the very best of British produce. Executive Chef Mike Robinson, a leading authority on wild food and game, brings his core ‘field to fork’ philosophy to The Elder. Relaxed and beautifully designed, yet sympathetic to its Georgian roots, The Elder epitomises opulence, pleasure and enjoyment of a great dining experience.
This tea house just around the corner from Hotel Indigo Bath is a must. Try the famous local Bath Bun, part bun, part bread, part cake, in one of the oldest houses in the city (c.1483).
A stones throw away from the hotel, on North Parade, the Green Rocket Café has earned itself several awards for its tasty vegetarian food and great coffee. Try their Summer Coconut & Cashew Curry.
This venue holds its name for a reason; hidden away in the historical lanes of Tudor Bath it's a true gem. You will find a world of tastes and flavours and superbly knowledgeable barkeeps. We recommend the Falling from Grace Cocktail.
Relax and enjoy natural thermal waters as the Romans did well over 2000 years ago. Bath in the warm, mineral-rich waters or enjoy a range of spa treatments designed to ease the body and soothe the mind. As a bonus it also offers amazing views across the city from its roof top pool.
Walk on the ancient pavements of one of the best-preserved Roman Remains in the world. Constructed around 70AD as a grand place to socialise and bathe in the natural warm spring waters found beneath the city, 1,170,000 litres of steaming spring water reaching 46 °C still fill the bathing site every single day.
Guides in every room bring the house to life with stories of the past. A fantastic place to learn and experience how the Georgians lived in Bath, after your visit a picnic on the lawn in front of this iconic building is a great way to really take in the view.
Explore how the city of Bath impacted upon Jane Austen’s life and writing in much loved books such as Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. An interactive visit means you can really get into the Jane Austen spirit and feel as if you’re really in Pride and Prejudice; dressing up in the exhibition’s Regency costumes.
Hosting over 400 events per year in the beautifully restored Grade II listed former Beau Nash cinema, Komedia Bath offers an unparalleled programme of comedy, music, cabaret and club nights. It's the destination in the region for touring comedy and music, hosts a raft of regular shows.
A historic free house and music pub on the edge of Bath city centre hosting live music three times a week ranging from jazz to blues to folk to other things. With open mic and DJ nights too. Highly recommended!
Brimming with history, the Theatre Royal Bath is one of the oldest and most beautiful theatres in Britain. Comprising three auditoria, the Main House, Ustinov Studio and the egg theatre for children and young people, a wonderfully varied programme of top-quality entertainment is on offer all year round.
This remarkable venue recently celebrated its 85th birthday. The Forum is Bath’s biggest venue and the third largest seated auditorium in the south west of England, a true reflection of typical Art Deco-era splendour hosting music events, festivals, dance, film, comedy and art shows throughout the year.
