Long renowned for its artistic flair, multicultural Antwerp celebrates its Flemish heritage in the ornate architecture of its medieval Grote Markt. The city boomed in the 15th century as the world’s biggest diamond market and made artistic waves 200 years later when Peter Paul Rubens painted his way to fame. By 1811, Antwerp was the busiest port in Europe, while our long-time dominance of the fickle stage of fashion began back in the 1980s, when six innovative designers took Flemish style to the world.
The creativity that built our city leads it forward and inspires each detail in our boutique hotel. You’ll see that same care in the lovingly crafted designs in Fashion District boutiques, in the subtle skill of diamond cutters and in the enticing gourmet food served in our restaurants.
QA’s Kitchen
Our city-centre hotel offers tasty food on the hoof in relaxed, open-plan QA’s Kitchen. Breakfast treats include Belgian waffles served with speciality coffees, and daytime menus offer sharing plates of tapas or prime selections of cured meats. Whether you’re craving Flemish beers, organic wines or craft gins, we’ve got you covered.
The Jane
Antwerp’s hottest tables are overseen by chef of the moment, Sergio Herman. The glamour of his food is matched by the black, white and gold elegance of the Michelin-starred venue, a Baroque chapel adorned with stained glass, skulls and spiky chandeliers. Cool types flock in to devour inventive cocktails, tapas and heavenly tasting menus.
Fiskebar
Fiskebar; Famed for its piles of oysters and langoustines served over ice, Antwerp’s premier seafood restaurant sources its delicacies sustainably. With chalkboard menus changing daily, gleaming white tiles and courteous service, it’s always rammed with customers working their merry way through vast platters of fish and bottles of white wine.
Sportpaleis Antwerp
Europe’s biggest indoor arenahas an action-packed programme of megastar concerts – Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and Beyoncé all gigged here – singalong Proms nights and big-name family musicals. To experience the buzz of a 23,000-strong crowd, look out for high-octane stunt shows, Freestyle motocross and top-class tennis.
De Roma
Scrubbed down and spruced up after decades of neglect, De Roma has recaptured its 1930s glory days and seats 2,000 in red-velvet tiers under its ornate, gilded ceilings. A former cinema in hipster-cool Borgerhout, it's now Antwerp’s coolest crowd pleaser for live bands, alternative films, zany theatre productions and circus festivals.
Queen Elizabeth Hall
Home to the prestigious Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra, Antwerp’s swankiest concert hallreopened to great acclaim in 2016 with a packed schedule of classical concerts, ballet and rock. Minutes from our hotel, the pure acoustics of its 2,000-seater, oak-clad auditorium attract major-league stars from across the world.
Jazzcafé De Muze
A late-night bohemian hotspot of enduring popularity, this vintage café appears to seep live jazz from red-brick walls on its three minuscule levels. Cramped and sweaty, the bars are packed, De Koninck beer is cheap and the music is loud. You might even get lucky – blues legends John Lee Hooker and Memphis Slim both played here.
Antwerp ZOO
Famous for its breeding programmes for endangered okapis and red pandas, Belgium’s biggest zoo is steps from our hotel. To admire its Art Nouveau architecture and get close to Silverback gorillas, penguins and koalas, tour this city oasis on its elevated Skywalk before enjoying 3D movies in the Planetarium and raptor feeding sessions.
Museum aan de Stroom
In buzzing dockside Eilandje, MASis a bizarre, red-sandstone and glass homage to Antwerp, topped by a viewing platform and a double-starred Michelin restaurant. Its ten floors of ever-changing exhibits showcase an engaging mix of harbour cranes, vintage cars, and flickering newsreel unravelling our city’s gripping backstory.
Antwerp Fashion District
With high priests of Flemish style from Verbeke to Van Noten lining elegant Nationalestraat, our city’s chic shopping district is also a hotbed of young design talent. At its creative heart are the ModeMuseum and Fashion Academy, alma mater to the Antwerp Six, whose novel slant on fashion took the world by storm in 1986.
Sint Annastrand
Antwerp’s sliver of city beachsits on the bank of the River Scheldt against a backdrop of dockyards and church spires. An open-air swimming pool, a yacht marina and forest pathways add to its laidback, rustic charm. Join mellow summer crowds to tuck into wheat beer and vats of steaming mussels served from cafés on the sand.
